Industrial PhD

In application of the provisions of section 6 of the third final provision of RD 195/2016, of 13 May, which amends art. 15 of RD 99/2011, the mention “Industrial PhD” will be awarded provided that the following circumstances are met:

a) The existence of an employment or commercial contract with the PhD student. The contract may be concluded by a private or public sector company, and by a public body.

b) The PhD student must participate in an industrial research or experimental development project carried out in a company or public body in which the service is provided, which cannot be a University. The industrial research or experimental development project in which the PhD student participates must be directly related to the thesis they are completing. This direct relationship will be accredited by means of a report that will have to be approved by the University.

In the event that the industrial research or experimental development project is carried out in collaboration between the university and the company or public body in which the PhD student is working, a framework collaboration agreement will be signed between the parties. The aforementioned agreement will indicate the obligations of the University and the obligations of the company or public body, and the selection process of PhD students.

The PhD student will have a thesis tutor appointed by the University and a supervisor assigned by the company or Public Body, who may be, where appropriate, the thesis Supervisor in accordance with PhD regulations.
